Overall plot: 4.5/5
Overall character development: 4/5

I finally got around to reading and finishing this book. Just one word: thrilling. Absolutely thrilling read. I didn't watch the movie because I didn't want to spoil any image of the characters or the storyline. For those who don't know, the Divergent trilogy is a dystopian trilogy where people are divided into 5 different factions. When children come of age at the age of 16, they go through an aptitude test to see which faction they are most suited to be in, and thereafter have the choice of choosing which faction to go into for the rest of their lives. Each faction comes with their own initiation, and if individuals do not pass the initiation in any way, they become factionless, which is basically dropping down to the lowest and most humiliating level possible. Our main character in the story is Beatrice (later becoming Tris), and her adventures in the initiation in her new faction, which seems to be going very well until a twist towards the end which brought the story to its climax. There was also the issue of being Divergent, which Roth used to leave readers in suspense about what it really meant and why it was so dangerous, and readers would yearn to know more and read to find out what happens with these "Divergents".

This book was literally a book I could not stop reading once I started, although I didn't have enough time to finish reading it all in one go. The storyline never failed to intrigue me from page 1 and it just got more and more intense as the plot developed. It was very easy to connect with the characters, especially Tris and later on, Tobias. One thing I didn't understand about the story, however, is why Tris was the only one in her batch who changed her name, while the rest like Christina and Peter didn't bother changing their names at all. Anyway, it was a pretty minor question raised and it didn't affect the story much.

I can't wait to get started on the next book, Insurgent, though I've heard that the books get progressively less and less interesting, but I'm just gonna have to read them and see what I feel about them.
